Some people might not remember the old days when the "Imp Pant" key actually printed whatever there was on the screen. Today that key doesn't seem to work by itself anymore, you need to go to an image editor in order to use it. PrintKey2000 gets you back to the old days, getting screen captures from the desktop is extremely easy with this very handy application.
This compact program easily takes a capture of whatever you want on your desktop, including a selected area or a selected window. You can edit it on the go and save it without further hassle.

It comes with a nice set of user options, such as Hotkeys, footer text, Autocapture, timer and many others. You can some modify picture options such as color, seize, brightness, depth. Sometimes a change in the program's configuration may cause the program to crash, butPrintkey2000 has an option to reset registry and configuration options, solving all the problems you might have with the program.

Version 5.1 is no longer supported, but its completely free and its just over 500KB, it cannot get any better than this.

  • Free.

  • Crashes sometimes.

PrintKey 2000 doesn't seem to work with Windows 10 software. Will there be an update to this great little tool?

Help! At some point last week I managed to change a setting on PrintKey 2000 that makes it so I get an instant screen shot when I hit the PrtScn key, without going through the settings. Now I want the settings menu back so I can do specific rectangles, etc, and I can't get back in to change it. Any suggestions?

Program works great. Those having the "No default printer error", exit the application, go to your printer and devices menu. Select a new default printer if you have a 2nd option, then select your initial printer that you want to use as your default. Relaunch the application and that should fix it.
Also, if you go to the printer Options tab, rather than selecting Default Printer as the printer, select your desired printer from the drop down should fix it.
Great program otherwise. Low memory usage, works in custom software that is used in our office unlike a few of the pay for print screen software, installs quick and leaves no pesky issues behind if you have to uninstall it.
Been using it for 10 years in an office with 30 PCs, OSs ranging from Win XP through Windows 8.1.
